A week before Donald Trump sits on his throne, Bernie Sanders is coordinating a massive national protest urging Trump to leave programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid alone. Bernie is warning Donald to keep his fingers off of your entitlements.
“We’re asking U.S. senators, members of the House, labor unions, environmental groups, senior groups, ordinary people to come together and tell the Republican Party that their priorities are absolutely backwards,” Sanders explained.
Nothing has changed with Bernie Sanders. He is still fighting for us. His weapons have not changed either. He still uses grassroots activists to cut down political corruption. Sanders understands that the protest is sharper than any sword.
“On January 15, for the first time in the modern history of the Democratic Party, Democrats are going to be organizing rallies all across this country in opposition to the Republican budget, which calls for throwing 30 million people off of health care, taking their insurance away… privatizing Medicare, making massive cuts in Medicaid, and at the same time giving tax breaks to the wealthy,” Sanders told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in a January 3 interview. Bernie Sanders became furious during an interview on CBS’s Face The Nation, when Reince Priebus said,
“I don’t think President-elect Trump wants to meddle with Medicare or Social Security. He made a promise in the campaign that that was something that he didn’t want to do. But what he wants to do is grow the economy, help shore up Medicare and Social Security for future generations. And if we can get three to five, 6% growth, we’ll do that. And we’ll explode the economy, and bring jobs back, and make trade more fair across the world, lower rates for everyone, and I think hopefully get businesses going again so people can put more money in their pocket.”
Senator Sanders however, wanted more of an assurance that our entitlements would be safe.
“At a time when the Republican leadership is working overtime to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, the statement by Mr. Priebus is just not good enough. Mr. Trump must make it clear to the American people that he will keep the promises he made during the campaign and veto any legislation that cuts Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”
In addition to the protests scheduled shortly, Sanders also has a vote scheduled for Tuesday on a budget amendment that would prevent the Senate from breaking Trump’s campaign promise not to cut Social Security and Medicare.
