Bernie Sanders is Urging us to Protest Not to Touch Entitlements

in Anti-Trump/Bernie Sanders/Donald Trump by

A week before Donald Trump sits on his throne, Bernie Sanders is coordinating a massive national protest urging Trump to leave programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid alone. Bernie is warning Donald to keep his fingers off of your entitlements.

“We’re asking U.S. senators, members of the House, labor unions, environmental groups, senior groups, ordinary people to come together and tell the Republican Party that their priorities are absolutely backwards,” Sanders explained.

Nothing has changed with Bernie Sanders. He is still fighting for us. His weapons have not changed either. He still uses grassroots activists to cut down political corruption. Sanders understands that the protest is sharper than any sword.

“On January 15, for the first time in the modern history of the Democratic Party, Democrats are going to be organizing rallies all across this country in opposition to the Republican budget, which calls for throwing 30 million people off of health care, taking their insurance away… privatizing Medicare, making massive cuts in Medicaid, and at the same time giving tax breaks to the wealthy,” Sanders told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in a January 3 interview. Alternet article

Bernie Sanders became furious during an interview on CBS’s Face The Nation, when Reince Priebus said,

“I don’t think President-elect Trump wants to meddle with Medicare or Social Security. He made a promise in the campaign that that was something that he didn’t want to do. But what he wants to do is grow the economy, help shore up Medicare and Social Security for future generations. And if we can get three to five, 6% growth, we’ll do that. And we’ll explode the economy, and bring jobs back, and make trade more fair across the world, lower rates for everyone, and I think hopefully get businesses going again so people can put more money in their pocket.”

Senator Sanders however, wanted more of an assurance that our entitlements would be safe.

“At a time when the Republican leadership is working overtime to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, the statement by Mr. Priebus is just not good enough. Mr. Trump must make it clear to the American people that he will keep the promises he made during the campaign and veto any legislation that cuts Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”

In addition to the protests scheduled shortly, Sanders also has a vote scheduled for Tuesday on a budget amendment that would prevent the Senate from breaking Trump’s campaign promise not to cut Social Security and Medicare.

  1. Call your representatives/senators NOW! Main number to the Capitol is 1-866-828-4162. CAll and it will direct you to who you wish to speak with! Tell them hands off SS and Medicare! I did it last week! Easy and quick! If it is busy, you will get a message, this is good because it means WE THE PEOPLE are doing some heavy calling, try again, later! I got to speak to my congressmans aide. BERNIE is fighting for us, now it’s our turn!

  2. let’s start fighting back with this one simple solution that will benefit millions for years to come.
End the current $118500 SS deduction cap. Continue the 6.2% deduction on every dollar earned. SS would then be funded and we could expand SS. A simple fix…
    We better speak up…..
“It is understandable why the House would want to block the public from seeing protests by their representatives. Among the various initiatives the Republicans plan to pass in the new session is pending legislation to cut Social Security benefits by 17-28%, raise the retirement age to 69, replace Medicare with a “coupon system,” and, of course, eliminate health insurance for 22 million Americans.”

We can’t allow this to happen this bill must be stopped in its tracks.
Quote from the article: “Key to this practice is something called “balance billing,” and it’s why the American Medical Association is strongly supporting Donald Trump’s pick of Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees Medicare. Balance billing is forbidden for Medicare enrollees, but Price wants to allow it — thus allowing doctors and hospitals to devour the nest eggs of thousands of American seniors.
So what is balance billing? It’s the practice of billing the patient for the difference between the sticker price and what insurance will pay. So if a hospital visit costs $1,000, but your insurance will only cover $300, some providers will “balance bill” you for $700.” This is currently not allowed under Medicare.

  6. I’ll protest, no problem! Almost everyone I know is either on, eligible for (or should be) some kind of entitlement. Not because they want to be (trust me, no one wants their finances judged by a “worker” who’s job it is to deny your application) but because they have to be, their jobs (if they have one) doesn’t pay enough to cover necessities. I myself am on the Food Stamp and Medicade entitlements because with less than $900 to live on each month, there is no money for food or meds or most necessities. Not our fault that wages are and always have been low for a huge amount of people. I resent the fact that so many with so much more money and opportunity, try to take our help programs away or cut them back.

    • I am also on foodstamps and get medicaid. I became disabled due to injuries I sustained from complications of my son’s birth. I also get FIP but I just passed 60 months and I’m awaiting their decision for my hardship exemption while my disability claim is in the courts (was denied in lower court by a judge whose job is to deny claims). I have all sorts of medical documentation but it scares me to death that the people making that decision are the same people that I deal with regularly and who have already passed judgment on me. You’re right. NO ONE would elect to take part in these programs if they didn’t have to.

  8. I agree with changing the narrative, calling these entitlements allows conservatives to keep calling people entitled. These are Earned Benefits, you paid into it and you should get a return on what you paid, this shouldn’t be controversial at all. Change the narrative.

  10. You don’t think they won’t bend over backwards Kevin? The Democrats in the Senate are a bunch of cowards who’ll surrender without a fight. They might even cosponsor some of the bills in the name of bipartisanship, which basically means the donors to both parties gave their puppets the same marching orders. I’ll be pleased if they show enough spine to filibuster but I’m not expecting much from this lot.

    • Yes, we did, but, they consider it an entitlement. They are way too eager to get their hands in it. Their attitude about it being an entitlement, is one reason I think, they think they have the right to cut back on our monthly payment amounts, which is on Trumps priority list. I don’t make enough as it is, my monthly amount doesn’t even cover most monthly rent prices before utilities, meds and other necessities(The only thing saving me at this moment is that I own a small travel trailer that is in bad need of repair, but it’s all I have to live in, as long as I can afford the park rents and the park doesn’t ask men to leave because my trailer is too old). I get my money on the 3rd and within an hour, I’m broke for the rest of the month. I know there are so many people who are much worse off than me, so what on earth will we do to live, if they do cutback on our check amounts? Especially considering Trump will be attacking Medicare, Medicade and food stamps as well, they are all on the chopping block.
