Guns + Mental Disorder = Tragedy

Great news for all Americans with mental disorders that think it is unfair that they can’t own a gun. Last week, Republican-led Senate voted to block Obama’s bill that prevented people with mental disorders from owning guns. Next, the measure will go to President Trump’s desk, where he is expected to sign it.

As a result of Adam Lanza’s rampage, Obama created this law that would prevent people with mental disorders from owning guns. Actually, the rule stipulates a more specific class than just those with mental disorders. Obama’s bill bars people who have such severe mental disorders that they qualify for Social Security disability benefits.

This law only prevents people who suffer from such a debilitating disorder they are unable to go to work and lead a normal life. Had this law been around in 2012, our country would have twenty extra little children. Chicago Tribune article

Obeying the demands of the National Rifle Association, republicans successfully got Senate to toss it out the window. The vote breezed through 57-43.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn. said,

“If you can’t manage your own financial affairs, how can we expect that you’re going to be a responsible steward of a dangerous, lethal firearm.”

The repeal crusade was led by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa. He argued the regulation discriminates the disabled. He said that mental disorders covered, were vague and would ultimately, prohibit people from buying guns. Chicago Tribune article

I hope the Senator defends himself with that same reasoning to the next gun shooting child victim’s parents. Imagine the fury and the betrayal knowing that your child is dead, because the NRA is dictating the laws. 1. Guns do not kill people. People kill people. A loaded gun will sit on a table all day and all night long and kill no one.

It takes a person to make a conscious decision to pick up the weapon and go through the relevant actions such as removing the safety, aiming and pulling a trigger to enable the the weapon to fulfil its only role.

    Education is the answer.
