This is a continuation of my series analyzing Trump’s lies. Trump’s healthcare was probably his biggest lie, just because nothing is more important to Americans than our healthcare.
Nothing bears more weight on his being in the White House than his lies. First, he pinpointed the most angry and rejected segment of our society. Then, Trump suffocated them with promise after promise, each one more unbelievable than the last. But they believed him. As a result, they pledged their allegiance and voted for him.
Republican sentiment on Obamacare really epitomizes the logic of every republican. And for them now to support Trump’s healthcare, defies every notion of commonsense. Do you prefer healthcare that covers you or one that doesn’t? I understand why the republican politician didn’t like Obamacare. Obamacare was not in the interest of their big donors. If I’m being paid to protect the interests of a big pharma company, of course I will protest Obamacare.
But for a republican voter, living in poverty, to reject free healthcare for themselves and their daughter, proves once and for all, (most) republican voters aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.
What their minds fail to comprehend is that, if you have insurance or not, you will get the care you need by going to the hospital. In the end, we pay for that coverage. The hospital covers it at first, but recovers it through charging us higher medical costs.
I’m sure if Obamacare was named anything else, republicans wouldn’t have hated it so much.
Trumpcare was supposed to be the ultimate solution to healthcare. Though, during the campaign, Trump gave no details about his plan except,
“We are going to replace Obamacare with something so much better.”
Still, every Trumpkin this side of the Yellow River, was convinced that Trumpcare would rival every healthcare system every conceived.
Here are a few vague details he gave about his plan and then an update of what Trump’s healthcare really turned out offering.
“I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.”
Trump’s healthcare – According to the Congressional Budget Office, by 2018, 14 million less people would be covered. That number would soar to 21 million in 2020 and 24 million in 2026!
“Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.”
Trump’s healthcare – According to the CBO, Trumpcare higher premiums and the choice not to enroll, would allow young healthy people to refuse healthcare. As a result, health care prices would soar for older people.
“I’m not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican and I’m not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid.”
Trump’s care – According to the CBO,
“The reductions in insurance coverage between 2018 and 2026 would stem in large part from changes in Medicaid enrollment—because some states would discontinue their expansion of eligibility, some states that would have expanded eligibility in the future would choose not to do so, and per-enrollee spending in the program would be capped.” Time article
Trump is a very smart guy. He got up in front of his packed rallies and he made jokes, and he flaunted around his hot wife, and then when he was done, he hopped in his chopper and flew away. What toothless shit-kicker would not idolize that sort of life? Trump could have said anything and he would have still gained their votes.
On a side note, I recently read an article in the Washington Post, and discovered a perfect example of how lost the typical republican voter is concerning healthcare. Perhaps if they understood Trump’s healthcare a little more, they would realize how terrible it is.
This guy lost his job, and his health insurance premiums dropped from $567 to $88. This reduction was as a result of Obamacare, that sets coverage based on income or Medicare.
However, his mother, Charla McComic, befitting last name, praised Jesus and the tax credits offered under Trump’s healthcare. She spends her days driving around her small town in Tennessee, chanting Trump’s name.
“So far, everything’s been positive, from what I can tell. I just hope that more and more people and children get covered under this new health-care plan.”
You were conned, America. Trump’s healthcare is consider the worst version of healthcare ever proposed. However, the only reason that it didn’t pass at first, was because Tea Party republicans thought it was too liberal! It will get a lot worse. You wanted your cake America, now you must eat it!
