Before he even announced the defeat of Trumpcare to the American people, Trump told ‘The New York Times’ and ‘The Washington Post’. If it was any other politician, there would be no story there. Those two newspapers are probably the most respected in America. By informing those two papers, politicians understand that their story will get an unbiased analysis. In addition, the article will spread across the country like wild-fire.
However, Donald Trump has spent his campaign and the first few months of his presidency calling ‘The New York Times’ and ‘The Washington Post’ ‘fake news’. If they are ‘fake news’ why would he entrust such critical news to them? Doesn’t he run the risk of having such a huge story get trimmed and hacked? Why would he break one of the biggest news stories of his presidency to them?
According to the Associated Press, Donald Trump’s affection for these “liberal rags”, like ‘The New York Times’, could have something to do with a new leftist allegiance. After all, he did credit conservative lawmakers for the demise of Trumpcare. What better way to thumb his nose at all of those conservative media outlets, than telling ‘The New York Times’ before ‘Infowars’?
He wrote on Twitter,
“Democrats are smiling in D.C. that the Freedom Caucus, with the help of Club For Growth and Heritage, have saved Planned Parenthood & Ocare!” AP article
Naturally, Trump blamed democrats at first. However, considering that republicans control everything in Washington, such an accusation was ignored. Trump had no choice, but to blame republicans for his demolished healthcare legislation.
But on Sunday, his aides made clear that Trump would be seeking support from moderate Democrats, leaving open the possibility he could still revisit health care legislation. White House chief of staff Reince Priebus scolded conservative Republicans, explaining that Trump had felt “disappointed” that a “number of people he thought were loyal to him that weren’t.” AP article
After such a pitiful first hundred days, it seems as if Donald Trump’s presidency is headed for failure. Like that chopper spinning through the clouds, with billows of black smoke pouring out of the engine. However, if Trump was able to make some concessions and work with democrats, he could make a swan out of an ugly duckling.
All it takes to untangle gridlock, is for one side to work with the other. If Donald Trump worked with democrats, he could get things done. Overnight, Trump would go from a useless president, to a very productive one.
The only people who would object to a cooperative republican president, would be the tea party alt right. This is the same faction that destroyed Trumpcare. They are definitely not in our president’s good graces right now.
Since Trumpcare didn’t pass, a huge portion of the funding for his proposed outlandish taxes will not be available. Reaching across the aisle might even be the only possibility he has left. When the shit clears, all he really wants is to be liked. Donald Trump would sprint at the chance to regain his popularity.
Republicans and democrats are different like that. Republicans have proven, they would rather see America collapse than a democrat prevail. If I could choose either Donald Trump’s presidency is a terrible failure, and as a result America is vanquished. Or, Donald Trump does good, and so does America. I would be rooting for Trump.
