Scott Pruitt, Trump’s pick to head the EPA, has built his career on attacking the EPA. The same agency that Scott Pruitt has been trying to dismantle his entire life, he now controls. The changes just made to the EPA’s website only verify his wishes to invalidate the agency he now heads.
The deputy chief chosen to lead the EPA is coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler. Andrew Wheeler has made a fortune as a registered lobbyist for the nation’s largest privately owned coal company, Murray Energy. Andrew Wheeler has spent the past eight years challenging many of former President Obama’s environmental regulations in court. Consequently, these people now get to regulate the air you and your child breathe. TheHill article.
Yesterday, the EPA announced changes to their website. As a result, links to articles that challenge what Scott Pruitt (and the nation’s coal companies that they lobby) believe have been removed.
One of these pages was a scientific site that explained what climate change is and how it worked. For two decades, a popular middle school assignment was to study the page. After all, the information on the page had been formulated by some of our nation’s most esteemed scientists.
When those students are given the same assignment, they will read articles written by the EPA. Scott Pruitt, for example, has not attempted to mask his views.
“Measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do and there’s tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact, so no, I would not agree that it’s a primary contributor to the global warming that we see.” WashingtonPost article
Early in Trump’s administration, there were rumors that the entire EPA climate change website would be removed. After all, the entire site contradicts the views of the coal industry. Considering the fact that Scott Pruitt and his deputy chief have spent their lives lobbying for the coal industry hence, they were initially going to just get rid of the site. Apparently, they are following orders from the coal industry to tailor the site.
