President Trump was very proud that he dismantled Michelle Obama’s nutritional standards for our nation’s children. Our previous First Ladies signature accomplishment, during her husband’s term, was to successfully set healthier nutritional standards for all public school breakfasts and lunches. 31 million children would eat healthier meals. Michelle Obama’s crusade was to fight childhood obesity. If children are eating crap at that age, there is a good chance they will become obese. Then, they will be very costly to our nation’s health system. I know lots of people don’t like the idea of our children eating healthy, because it was “Michelle’s plan”. However, if our nation’s children grow up to be more fit and healthy, it will save our nation millions of dollars.

President Trump’s pick for Agriculture Secretary, Sonny Perdue, quickly announced his plans to abolish Michelle Obama’s accomplishment. In fact, Sonny’s first major action in office, was to destroy these nutritional requirements for our nation’s children. This should be a fright for all Americans everywhere. Unlike many of Trump’s other cabinet choices, Sonny Perdue knows about the industry that he is leading. Unfortunately, his knowledge is from the other side. Sonny Perdue heads a global agribusiness trading company – Perdue Partners LLC.

As a result, Sonny Perdue was quick to replace Michelle Obama’s school lunches with those more friendly to the processed food industry. For example, Michelle Obama pressed to have calorie labels on school lunch menus. Sonny Perdue’s first legislation as the Agricultural Secretary, was to remove these calorie warnings, so that your child will have no idea how bad the shit really is that they are pouring down their throats.

Some other changes to your kid’s lunches will be to delay Michelle’s requirement to lower sodium. Another change that Michelle was trying to implement, is the amount of grain required in school lunches. Under Michelle’s plan, schools would offer nonfat milk. Unfortunately, under Trump our schools will return to serving 1 percent milk. ABCnews article

When Donald Trump became president, his most important task was to abolish government programs. The more government programs he cuts, the more cash he saves. The more cash he saves, the more tax breaks he could hand out to him, his family and his friends. Every government program that doesn’t put money in his wallet, was instantly slashed by Trump. Although these programs might help other people, like Meals on Wheels, Big Bird, public libraries and feeding the homeless. If they didn’t help Trump, they were gone!

Perdue has defended shortening the lives of your children.

“This announcement is the result of years of feedback from students, schools, and food service experts about the challenges they are facing in meeting the final regulations for school meals,” Perdue said in a statement during a visit to Catoctin Elementary School in Leesburg, Va. “If kids aren’t eating the food, and it’s ending up in the trash, they aren’t getting any nutrition – thus undermining the intent of the program.” Newsweek article

Even more heartbreaking, is when you consider the poorer students, whose only meal is what they eat in the cafeteria. Kristen Linton, a professor of Health Science at California State University, explained. Lower-income schools with a large student population struggle when it comes to serving healthy meals.

“Eighty percent of the students at this school district qualify for free or reduced school lunch. The school district is reimbursed $3.16 for those who qualify for free lunch and $2.76 for those who qualify for reduced lunch for 2016-2017. Thus, the school nutrition services must plan healthy, balanced lunches that cost generally $3.16 or less per student. That is no easy task given that they are required to also meet other dietary, caloric requirements by the state as well. School districts with fewer students who qualify for free or reduced school lunch would have higher budgets and more flexibility to offer healthier options.” CSMonitor article

Our president is willfully taking money out of our children’s health and nutritional standards and handing it to his wealthy buddies. If that does not infuriate you, you are just as bad as him.
