Trump’s vicious attack on Jeff Sessions is the worst thing he could do to himself and to the Republican party. However, this is exactly what those who voted for him wanted. During the presidential campaign, if you would’ve asked any of those tank top-wearing, cross-burning, minority-hating Trump supporters at one of his rallies, ‘why do you like Trump?’ Nine out of ten of them would have defiantly answered, ‘He is not a politician.’
Seemed like a strange answer to give, considering you are defending your pick to lead our country. In their defense though, if the politicians that I had been voting for decades, had been lying to me, I would probably feel the same way. Republican voters were tired of being cheated and made to look stupid. Time and time again, Republicans destroy our country and they keep regurgitating their lies to get re-elected. Some of these voters still, to this day, believe that old ‘trickle down’ routine. They really believe that if their benefits are removed and instead provide a small tax break for the wealthy than their lives will be improved. Republicans have been fooling their constituents with that nonsense for a long time.
That is how they could justify selecting a non-politician to be our president. However, I think we could all agree that such an experiment has been a complete failure.
Every day, our president does something so stupid that the entire world can only observe with shock. This whole confrontation with his Attorney General Jeff Sessions is beyond idiotic. Trump claims that he is so enraged over his recusal of the Trump Russia collusion investigation. This happened months ago. In addition, he recused himself from the investigation because he was a part of Trump’s campaign. Such an apparent conflict of interest would make it impossible for Sessions to conduct a proper investigation. Any other politician in the country, would have no problem with his recusal. In fact, most politicians would probably be grateful for Sessions’ decision.
Sessions’ recusal infuriated Trump beyond words! The Washington Post reported that Trump is even considering candidates to replace his AG!
What other reason would explain Trump’s irate demeanor towards his AG, then that Trump is guilty in the current Trump-Russia collusion investigation? In such a case, of course, Trump would feel much better with loyal supporter Jeff Sessions heading the investigation. After all, he was a key piece to Trump’s campaign. Jeff had even met secretly with Russian agents during the campaign. Jeff understood the risks he was taking and felt it best to just step aside. If Jeff is just as guilty as Trump, of course, Trump would want him heading the investigation.
Jeff was literally one of Trump’s earliest supporters. Without his support, it is questionable if Trump would be in the White House today. After all this relentless devotion, look at how he is treated! Trump is tearing Sessions a new asshole. For whatever reason, he has become Trump’s biggest enemy. Such hatred sends a loud message through D.C.: Trump loyalty is worthless. Why should senators get behind atrocious Trump legislation, if this is how he repays his biggest supporters?
Take Trumpcare, for example. With more than half Americans now behind Obamacare, a shitty replacement will most likely end the career of any politician whose signature is on it. Especially after Trump demonstrated how he thanks his most loyal supporters, why would anyone get behind Trumpcare? It is kind of like playing Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun. Not worth the risk.
Republicans have all gathered behind Jeff Sessions in their support. Any staunch Limbaugh-listening-conservative loves Jeff Sessions.
“During the past twenty years that I have served with Jeff Sessions in the Senate, I have had the opportunity to know him well,” Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., said Tuesday on Twitter. “Jeff Sessions is a man of integrity, loyalty, and extraordinary character. I join the people of Alabama in giving Jeff Sessions my deep respect and unwavering support.”
“Jeff Sessions is one of the most decent people I’ve ever met in my political life. Jeff Sessions is a rock-solid conservative, but above else, he believes in the Rule of Law. He understands we are a nation of laws, not men,” Lindsay Graham said Tuesday. “On occasion, I’ve vigorously disagreed with Jeff but I’ve never once doubted his integrity or sense of fair play.”
Let us face it. Jeff is a beloved dude in the Senate.
If you were President Trump, about to unload a very funky agenda, a fight with the Senate is the last thing you want to bring about.
So removing Sessions would be political suicide for the president. Trump now knows this, as a result of the reaction he got. As a result, Sessions will stay. Ultimately our president’s little temper tantrum achieved nothing. But according to Trump’s fan base, this is cool. They wanted someone who wasn’t a politician. And they sure got what they wanted! Every decision Trump makes is terrible for him as well as for our country.
In fact, Trump’s tirade against Sessions was a very stupid thing to do. As a result, the Senate has taken polarizing sides against Trump. In addition, now that Trump has dragged his AG through the most humiliating and degrading experience of his professional career, do you think Sessions will be quick to run to Trump’s aid? Like any five-year-old child, Trump was unable to restrain his terrible temper tantrum.
