Las Vegas suffered the worst mass shooting in American history last night. Almost 60 people were killed, hundreds were injured, and thousands of lives were devastated. We’ve seen this before and we will see it again. All I can do, is hope your family members are far away. However, the city of Las Vegas is headed for another disaster. Las Vegas never had universal health care. That means the bills for the hundreds of injured people will be astronomical. As a result, they have begun to beg for money.

I get it. Republicans say we don’t have to buy healthcare. Although, they don’t mind having to buy car insurance. In the history of the Republican party, they never fought an issue more than preventing you and your kid from having insurance. They have called Obamacare “the most dangerous piece of legislation ever passed” and “as destructive to personal and individual liberties as the Fugitive Slave Act”. (See how they tried unsuccessfully to frighten black people) I still don’t get their argument. I don’t think anyone does.

Remember those republican politicians telling their uneducated minions that Obama was going to “force” them into paying for something. That get all of them riled up. Suddenly, people were marching in the street and fighting for their freedom…not to buy healthcare. Republican politicians made their supporters think that Obamacare was somehow threatening their liberty and justice.

Perhaps you can credit their marketing tricks, or perhaps you can credit the fact that most republicans are uneducated and easily tricked. Whatever the reason, republicans nationwide were up in arms against Obamacare. As a result, many conservative state politicians got elected by vowing to keep Obamacare away from their constituents. Nevada, for example, proudly refused to buy into the state’s Medicaid program. It worked for those Nevada politicians who were elected. Sadly, it turned out to be a mistake for the victims from last night’s massacre, who have no insurance.

What happened to these unfortunate victims, as they were wheeled into the emergency room last night? They were not denied treatment. Instead, they get the treatment, they just don’t have to pay for it. The Las Vegas hospital will just have to jack up their prices to cover the treatment.

Yesterday morning, Clark County Commission Chair Steve Sisolak, set up a GoFundMe, a private crowdfunding platform, to request charity for those injured in the massacre.

Sisolak, who is running for governor as a Democrat, pitched in $10,000 and explained that he is currently at the county’s level-one trauma center with victims:

I’m Steve Sisolak, Clark County Commission Chair from Las Vegas. We are raising funds to assist the victim’s of the tragic Las Vegas shooting. I am at Clark County’s only level-one trauma center with the victims and their families as we speak.

Funds will be used to provide relief and financial support to the victims and families of the horrific Las Vegas mass shooting?

On another note, this past weekend, republicans allowed the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), to expire. This bipartisan program provided insurance to nine million children, with low-cost health insurance. Low income infants and pregnant women of color typically rely on CHIP.

The CHIP program reduces the amount of uninsured among children from 14% to 5%. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., the chair and ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee said,

Every day that passes without action following the funding deadline this Saturday means more heartache for children and families and more uncertainty for states. I will be pulling out all the stops to ensure Congress keeps its promise to America’s kids. TheIntercept

We are the most powerful country in the world, and we need to beg for medical treatment!? This is disgusting. We are the only industrialized nation in the world that does not offer healthcare for our citizens. When terrorists drove through a crowd in England earlier this year, for example, where healthcare is provided to all residents, there was no problem. Certainly, there was no begging.

The same republican politicians that persuaded their uneducated voters not to buy insurance for their children should cover the medical services for the victims of last night’s massacre. Blood is on their hands.

Hopefully the blood is not from one of your loved ones.
