According to an NBCNews report, shortly after Trump became the Republican nominee, the FBI warned him that foreign entities might attempt to infiltrate his campaign. Each presidential candidate was requested to notify the FBI of any suspicious interactions with foreign governments.
This is not a big deal. Such warnings are common to presidential nominees. However, most presidential nominees are not teaming up with foreign powers to disrupt America’s election process. The fact that Trump was warned about such threats, yet failed to notify the FBI, could be a great reason for impeachment.
Finally, we have vital clues to this investigation and Trump’s downfall is starting to be mapped. Trump was explicitly warned by the FBI that Russia would try to involve itself with his campaign. Hence, he was well aware of the dangers Russia posed. By willingly cooperating with an enemy of the state, but failing to inform authorities, Trump would be guilty of treason.
Trump’s only saving grace, would be that he had no knowledge of Russian interaction with his campaign. If there is no evidence that Trump was aware of Russian meddling, then he can’t be charged. Of course, we don’t believe that, but as long as he can maintain his innocence, he is in the clear. I always felt Trump would rely on this defense.
Mueller will find ways around this.
It isn’t so hard to believe that Trump instructed everyone in his cabinet to do the leg work and leave him out of it. However, this seemingly infallible tactic has more holes than a piece of Swiss cheese! Maybe Trump wasn’t interacting with the Russians, but his team of crooks were. He entrusted those in his innermost circle of trust to do his legwork, a decision that Trump is undoubtedly regretting. Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr., for example, have already been implicated with secretly meeting with Russians. If either of those two dainty spoiled brats were threatened with twenty years on Rikers Island, I’m sure they’d stuff Trump under the closest bus.
By the time the FBI warned Trump of Russian meddling, in August of ’16, at least seven Trump officials had been in contact with people connected to the Russian government. However, none of those people reported this to the FBI.
Frank Figliuzzi, a former head of FBI counterintelligence and an NBC News analyst, said counterintelligence briefings “provide an opportunity for investigative subjects to be transparent with the bureau and to come back if such contacts are occurring because of admonishments by the bureau.”
If they fail to do that, he said, “a couple of factors could be at play: They didn’t spread the message to the rest of the team or there is some form of guilty conscience that prohibits them.” NBCNews
Even if none of Trump’s accomplices talk, Mueller could still prove that he was aware of Russian interference. For example, Trump was told by his staffers that George Papadopoulos was meeting with people connected to Putin. Trump Jr. also arranged a meeting at Trump Tower between himself, Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner plus several people connected with the Russian government.
Trump’s communications director Hope Hicks, was also briefed by the FBI several times to look out for Russian interference. However, according to The New York Times, Hicks received emails from the Russian government when Trump was president.
The bottom line, is that Trump involved way too many people in his scam. Every person that has intel on Trump-Russia, is another potential route to lock Trump up. One accusation is questionable, but when fifteen different people in the Trump campaign all confess to conspiring with the Russians to throw the election, Trump will be facing treason charges.
Michael Flynn was charged with lying to the FBI. He tried to preserve this magnificent lie. However, once the FBI threatened to charge his son, Flynn began squealing like a pig. Paul Manafort has been talking behind the scenes as well. I wonder what Hope Hicks, Jared Kushner, Donald Trump Jr., and the rest of the Bad News Bears have to say about The Donald. They all ignored the FBI’s request to report interaction with the Russians. The only way that Mueller will allow them to escape charges, is if they cooperate with taking Donald Trump down.
