Trump’s lawyers are getting very desperate. I reckon that is a good sign. Only once you smell those steaks sizzling, are you aware of how good dinner is going to be. During an interview yesterday, Trump’s lawyer speculated that Trump can’t obstruct justice, because he is “the chief law enforcement officer”. That statement is so wrong on so many levels. If I was Trump and my lawyer was going to use that defense, I’d be a nervous wreck.

To make things even worse for the Keystone Cop Trump team, they are going against Mueller, the most respected prosecutor in the country, as well as a handpicked team of the sharpest and best lawyers in the country. The past forty eight hours, Trump’s legal team have made statements so bizarre, the rest of the world can only watch with shock.

After his former national adviser pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, Trump tweeted,

God knows what hysteria is erupting in that orange head of his, but in reality that tweet sure looks like Trump is admitting that he fired Flynn because he lied to the FBI. Yesterday, the world reacted in shock. If the president knew Flynn was lying, then isn’t he complicit in Flynn’s treason?

Suddenly, Trump’s lawyer, John Dowd, confessed that he wrote the tweet. There isn’t anyway to prove this, so we’ll take it. Although, if Trump’s lawyer really wrote a tweet accusing Donald Trump of treason, you’d think Trump would fire him. It would also be weird if a lawyer used the word ‘pled’. Above all, it would be strange that Trump is allowing someone else to write his tweets.

And then the other statement, that the president is righteous and therefore can do whatever he wants, is beyond moronic. How much are these lawyers being paid?

For starters, the American government functions in a checks and balances system. No branch of government yields infinite power. Our founding fathers explicitly designed a government in which the president COULD NOT do the things that Trump’s lawyers are arguing that he can.

Imagine that the judge ruled in Trump’s defense. Hence, our nation’s judicial system enforces the omnipotent supremacy of our president. According to Trump’s new defense, because he is the president, he can do whatever he wants. Does that go for theft and murder as well? Why can’t Trump murder someone? If he is the president, he can do anything he wants. Sovereignty knows no boundaries.

That is the difference between a king and a president.

This is why our founding fathers were careful to sculpt a government that no branch held more power than the others. By definition, if Trump is allowed to obstruct justice just because he is the president, a high crime as severe as treason, then of course, the executive branch has more power.

A few months ago, Marc Kasowitz, one of Trump’s lawyers, reacted to a stranger, who requested that he resign from Trump’s team. Check out his response.

How dare you send me an email like that. I’m on you now. You are f— with me now. Let’s see who you are. Watch your back, bitch…I already know where you live, I’m on you… You will see me. I promise. USAToday
