Yesterday, while our president was destroying our post World War II alliances, and the republican congress was defying the constitution in a disgusting McCarthy-esque display of totalitarianism, our democracy took another bashing. Republicans passed an amendment that prohibits gays from adopting. LGBTQNation
One by one, republicans are removing the liberties and freedoms that define America. Whether it be making it easier for people with mental illnesses to get guns, refusing citizenship to the world’s persecuted or forcing people to salute something they may disagree with, after Trump, America is not the place our founding fathers designed.
On Wednesday, the republican House Appropriations Committee passed an amendment that allows adoption agencies to deny LGBTQ families the ability to adopt a child, based on religious objections. This law is almost identical to the 7-2 US Supreme Court ruling that sided with a baker who refused to decorate a cake for a gay wedding based on religious objections.
According to this ridiculous ruling, why can’t I start a religion with one commandment delineating people with green hair as evil? Hence, under the protection of our religious liberty law, I wouldn’t have to serve people with green hair. It is my religion. Who is to say, the foundations of my faith are not as resilient as those of another faith?
As a result of this disgusting law, think of the countless children who will be deprived a loving family. Instead, they will spend their childhoods in an orphanage staring out a window. This law prohibits love and families from blossoming in an especially barren part of land.
How dare these conservative politicians ruin little children’s lives to placate a base of hatred. Republican politicians and voters alike should lose sleep at night, thinking of all the children that are sleeping in orphanages because of them. Every piece of republican legislation is intended to inspire hatred. It is so much easier to inflame the public and gain votes based on hatred as opposed to productivity. Republican voters have proven that they prefer laws that
“House Republicans are pandering to their far-right base at the expense of LGBTQ people and children in need of a home,” said Democratic National Committee (DNC) LGBTQ Media Director Lucas Acosta.
Republicans celebrated the news. They consider depriving needy little children families, a victory. Have these people any shame?
According to statistics, there are about two million LGBTQ adults looking to adopt. If this law passes, it prohibits a wealth of prospective parents from adopting children and starting loving families. AmericanAdoptions
Republican politicians are always claiming to know better than you and me. Their morality advice stinks of piousness. However, this superiority effectively damages the country. For example, republican presidential nominee Rick Santorum, once told a New Hampshire audience that a child will do much better growing up with a father in prison opposed to two lesbian parents, LiveScience.
Ignoring the blatant vileness in the comment, we have to question the accuracy of it. How do you even prove something like that? Quite conversely however, there has been research that repudiates Santorum’s ugly comments.
Gay parents “tend to be more motivated, more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents,” said Abbie Goldberg, a psychologist at Clark University in Massachusetts who researches gay and lesbian parenting. Gays and lesbians rarely become parents by accident, compared with an almost 50 percent accidental pregnancy rate among heterosexuals, Goldberg said. “That translates to greater commitment on average and more involvement.” LiveScience
